Power Rangers: Shattered Grid - Comic Book News

What is the first thing that pops into your head when I say that it's Morphin Time?

I would really hope it’s the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers  and not something like how you need to consume more kale in your diet...which you probably do because I know I totally do. Anyway since I was a kid the Power Rangers has been cool...have been cool? (I looked it up and “Have” is used with some pronouns and plural nouns which Power Rangers is most assuredly a plural noun if your referring to the individual rangers however I would have to use “has” if I meant the show which is singular...grammar is weird). Power Rangers the tv show in all of its incarnation is both really dumb yet awesome.

As a premise the show sounds pretty on par with the period it came out in...the 90’s which took a massive page from the 80’s and left most of us born into the 90’s Mech Robot Shows and the love for hero teams. It's super obvious when we see the Ninja Turtles, the Transformers, and Voltron. However how the Power Rangers came to be was due to the Japanese TV series called as a whole Super Sentai. Within the original Power Rangers TV show there are two distinct arcs...the Teens at one of their hangout locations or Angel Grove High and in stark contrast the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers who are generally at the Ranger Base hanging out with Zordon, in their Zords/Megazord, or fighting putties in hand to hand combat. These two arcs exist because its two different shows; the teens are original characters to the Power Rangers and the Rangers are characters from Super Sentai.

By now you're probably wondering why this is all news, you’ve already checked twitter and their isn’t another live action film coming out so who cares right? The franchise has been dead ever since they were ninjas or vikings...were they ever vikings? No they were not no matter how cool that would be. However the franchise has been far from dead; In late 2017 the Twitch channel HyperRPG started running a new tabletop RPG...Power Rangers Hyperforce. This show is an official series as it has been sanctioned by Saban Brands, and its a loose sequel to 2001’s Power Rangers Timeforce. This hasn’t been the only way the series has survived...did you know there is a currently running TV series call Power Rangers Ninja Steel and Super Ninja Steel?  Furthermore there is a two running comic books...one entitled Go Go Power Rangers which has just 5 issues so far and the second being Mighty Morphin Power Rangers which has 25 issues with 2 annuals.

Now if’ you’ve listened to our weekly podcast you know Doug is a comic book fan...his wallet a little less so but whatever. Today a new storyline was announced...Power Rangers Shattered Grid. It starts with Issue #26 in which the current Power Rangers are teaming up with the Time Force Rangers as Lord Drakkon is basically doing a victory lap. Then in the 2018’s Annual other Rangers from Dino Super Charge, RPM, Time Force, Ninja Steel and Dino Thunder will be teaming up with our Mighty Morphin Power Rangers...Want to know how it all starts?

Time Force’s Pink Ranger! Which for viewers of the Hyperforce series on Twitch know that the last time we seen her was after the new Ranger recruits jumped back in time to follow the Shadowed Man. Now we aren’t sure if this new comic story arc will incorporate Hyperforce into the overall mythos of the Power Rangers comic series but it's interesting to see that Jen Scott (The Time Force Pink Ranger) is being used a lot lately. For this comic series they didn’t have to use her they could have used any other time Macguffin they wanted to.

So as you can see the Power Rangers franchise is far from dead and is actually doing really well...not only does it still sell its crafting more mature storylines for some of its media forms and staying a kids show for other forms. However even the children’s tv show has its merit up to and including that in one of the series they use props from Starship Troopers the 1997 film and the 2003 short lived TV show Firefly...If you can tell us which prop is used in all three of these go ahead and tweet us at @Byte_Sizenews.

That's all we have for today however we will continue to be active on Twitter and will be posting new stories at least three times a week and up to 4 million provided there is a super busy  news day.
