Final Fantasy 15 Royal Edition - Game Announcement
At long last Final Fantasy 15 will be coming to PC and it will be bringing all the DLC and then some to the system.
If you're a PC gamer then chances are you got to WATCH people play the latest polarizing Final Fantasy entry in the storied series. Final Fantasy has long been a staple of JRPGS since 1987 for Japan and 1990 for the US. The series drew inspiration from its peers such as Dragon Warrior and the early editions of Dungeons and Dragons, but as it matured it started developing more narrative and character driven story lines. Some of the stories will never be forgotten such as: the Dark Knight turned Paladin Cecil fighting Golbez in Final Fantasy 4, the brothers flipping a coin for freedom in Final Fantasy 6, Cloud summoning the Knights of the Round in Final Fantasy 7, and the hilariously bad laughing scene in Final Fantasy 10. However some stories I personally have forgotten either due to my age playing them, their aged game play, or their flat characters, such as: Whatever happened in Final Fantasy 8... The entirety of Final Fantasy 9, and the last half of Final Fantasy 13 and its million sequels. That's not to say those games are bad...I just don’t have any memory of them much like cloud doesn’t remember much of anything in Kingdom Hearts; which brings us to…
If I was to pitch throwing Donald Duck, Goofy, Sephiroth, and a big shoe wearing anime protagonist voiced by Haley Joel Osment of “I see dead people” fame into a fever dream of a Disney princess movie. You would probably laugh me out of the room, but across all 8 of its titles, none of which are Kingdom Hearts 3, it has sold 24 million units which doesn’t sound like a lot but if you compare that with Dragon Quests 29 titles with sales up to 90 million its an even bigger surprise. Somehow despite how crazy it sounds Final Fantasy was melded with Disney tales and the whole came out better than either portion on its own. Final Fantasy has a way with bizarre spin offs including the Chocobo series, Dissidia, a bevy of mobile games, and Theatrhythm games which are the beat mania style games. Going back to Kingdom Hearts for a moments it's hard to believe it was released two console lives ago. Released back in 2002 for the PlayStation 2, Kingdom Hearts came at a period in my life where its story and themes were especially poignant. I was not an early adopter of the game I only got the game in 2006 when my family moved to Tennessee all the way from Las Vegas where I grew up. I left friends I had known for most of my life and it sounds crazy but the themes of Kingdom Hearts explored similar ideas. All Sora knew was the Destiny Islands until one day his friends were gone and he went on a voyage to find them...it explored his loneliness and this adventure to find them. In my case it was a voyage to find new friends to start a brand new life so different from what I knew. It's sad to know my greatx23 grand-kids will never get to play Kingdom Hearts 3 on their PlayStation 43.
Baaack to the main topic...Final Fantasy 15 is finally getting a definitive edition aptly named the Royal Edition...except it's not definitive. SquareEnix confirmed that there would be at least three more downloadable episodes for the year one of which involve Ardyn. Truth is folks I haven’t played Final Fantasy 15 yet because honestly it looked like a J-pop boy band having a publicity summer drive tour, that's not wholly a bad thing...it's just not my thing. Somehow I’ve kept away from spoilers for the story despite only knowing it has gotten middling reviews and those I know who did play it...didn’t like it much. However recently it's come to my attention that I have my own tastes. I enjoyed Mass Effect Andromeda greatly, Watch_dogs 2 isn’t awful, and I like Dark Souls when I previously didn’t. So maybe it's time to grab the Royal Edition of FF15 and give it a shot because they are adding a whole bucket of stuff and including the previously released content.
Insomnia City Ruins will now host series staples Cerberus and Omega as well as The Rulers of Yore
The Royal Vessel Boat and Fishing which now adds more food dishes
Armiger Unleashed which powers up Armiger
A first Person Camera Mode as well as previous content and new trophies/achievements.
A new Regalia Mode in the form of a monster truck
I mean just the fishing alone draws me into the game...all the greatest games have it! Stardew Valley, Pokemon, Harvest Moon, and Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time all feature fishing. All jokes aside I’m strongly considering this Royal Edition of the game to not only complete my Final Fantasy collection but to actually play a game I’ve been judging without actually playing it myself. I may not get it on launch day due to Monster Hunter being my main Q1 purchase, but I will at least give it a shot.
In the meantime my task to you is to rent/buy/borrow a game you heard got negative reviews that you have been judging and actually play it. You may really enjoy a game that others don’t and that's fine not everyone has the same tastes.
