After the Rain

After the Rain is a masterpiece produced by the same company that brought us Attack on Titan and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. Wit Studios brings you a story of a young High School girl who is growing up and trying to understand love. Tachibana is a second year High School student who works at a family restaurant. While this may seem normal, Tachibana used to be a naturally gifted track runner who had her eyes on one day becoming great with her friends until an ankle injury (possibly torn tendon) cut her track career short. In response she takes up a job at a local family restaurant to help keep her mind off of her first passion.

Tachibana has a secret however: she is head over heels about her boss Mr. Kondo, a kind yet goofy middle age man who seems to be destined to serve as a restaurant manager for the rest of his life. Despite having a young kid of his own, Kondo seems to be all about work and it's up to Tachibana to practically spell out her love to him as they continue to live life.

Because we are in the United States, this masterpiece with beautiful animation, soundtrack, and hidden literary emphasis and meaning may seem to be super awkward when it comes to the age difference. However, I would highly recommend giving it a chance.

In addition to being a story about romance, friendship, dreams, and everyday life, After the Rain provides a glimpse into everyday life in Japan. The characters are all loveable, the show has  clean humor and no language, as well as no sexual content to boot. My recommendation is if you are looking for a series to detox from anime cliches, fantasy, and want a work that will make you feel good on the inside and inspired to go out and overcome life's complexity and trials. I give this series a 4.5 out of 5 and I suggest giving it a watch now!
